If you’re anything like me, you’re decisive—sometimes, even impulsive.
I can’t begin to tell you how much that’s helped me in life. Whenever I think of something, I do it. That’s how this podcast was born. That’s why I’m where I am.
In fact, most people never achieve anything because they never do anything. They never change anything.
How do you expect your life to change if you don’t change your approach to your work and daily activities?
I like the quote by W. Churchill: “To Improve is to Change. To Perfect is to Change Often.”
There’s a big but (no pun intended).
If you have a family. If you have children. If you have a mortgage. If you have other responsibilities. Don’t listen to your impulses.
Don’t quit your job just because you feel motivated today.
I celebrate your motivation, but you’re looking for a disaster. Big life changes don’t happen overnight—they take consistent time and effort to manifest into something real.
I mean, when I was just starting out, I was lucky because I was still in my 20s and I could live at my parents’ house and I could just do whatever I want with my businesses.
But if you don’t have that luxury, don’t just make sporadic decisions.
Instead, work your ass off after your day job. Instead of binge-watching Netflix, create a website. Send some emails. As Gary V put it, even 6 hours a day is “enough to do damage.” I think that number could be even smaller.
Do something for 3 hours a day after work, do it in a consistent, effortful fashion, and you’ll start seeing results. Not today, not tomorrow, not next week. Maybe not even next month. But they will come.
It’s a game of perseverance and patience.
Till the day comes when you’re fully comfortable with your business income and not your job income, do not quit your job. I repeat, do not quit your job.
